Marine Oil Analysis Service

Protect Your Fleet.
Guarantee Smooth Voyages. Sail with Assurance
CME (Condition Monitoring Experts) provides marine oil analysis that protects your fleet, onboard systems, and operations. We pinpoint specific diagnoses to identify warning signs (such as wear, contamination, and breakdown of lubricant) in critical marine equipment, engines, gear boxes, hydraulics, cylinder drains, stern tubes, and more. This opens the possibilities for effective maintenance, expand service life, and minimize unplanned downtime.
Why it's Important to Conduct Marine Oil Analysis?
Marine equipment operates in extreme conditions: high loads with varying speeds, continuous duties, and no shortage on the demand for pressure while battling the elements. Lubricants degrade, become contaminated, or breakdown; jeopardizing critical components, and safety.

Routine oil analysis provides the opportunity to:
- Early detection of marine engine wear/contamination
- Extend life of engines, gearboxes & hydraulics
- Prevent costly downtime and repairs at sea
- Boost vessel availability & efficiency
- Enable predictive, condition-based maintenance
Wear & Elemental Analysis
Use ICP spectroscopy to identify early signs of component wear, contaminants and additive balance in lubricants.
Viscosity & Flash Point
Track change in viscosity at different temperatures and flash points to monitor oil health and identify issues of dilution and contamination.
Moisture & Contaminants
Identify water ingress and particle contamination exceeding ISO thresholds—especially important in marine situations.
Chemical Condition Analysis
Utilize FTIR and TAN/AN tests to ascertain oxidation, acidity, density and emulsion quality to identify degrade in oil condition.
Wear Debris & Ferrography Analysis
Classify wear particles and monitor lubricant wear patterns in real time with analytical ferrography.
Advanced Marine Oil Analysis
CME Marine Labs offer specialized diagnostics in addition to standard oil testing, such as Water Separation, Stern Tube Oil Integrity and the RULER® Test (Remaining Useful Life Evaluation Routine) to provide specific information to protect your fleet and ensure reliable operations at sea.
This is a measure of an oil’s ability to separate from water, and is an important factor in marine environments where contamination by water is frequent, as poor separation can result in rust, corrosion and excessive wear to engines, gearboxes and hydraulic systems. Monitoring this will ensure required lubrication is provided, improving reliability and reducing premature failure of components at sea.
Stern tube oil analysis involves checking for the presence of water, solid particle contamination, as well as assessing for changes to viscosity, or changes to additive chemistry. Stern tube oils are in direct contact with seawater, and protecting the integrity of the oil is essential for maintaining bearing condition, according to environmental regulations, and to avoid leakage.
The RULER® test measures antioxidant levels in marine lubricants to track oil degradation and predict remaining service life. This enables condition-based oil changes instead of fixed schedules, reducing costs, extending service intervals, and ensuring reliable protection for vessel machinery.
